MPSI honors the lived expertise of families and communities in Detroit and beyond in all its work. MPSI embraces its role in advocating for the preservation and restoration of the Freer House as a Wayne State University and Detroit historical landmark with international significance.

The Freer House at WSU,  is home to Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute faculty and staff. We are committed to promoting the rich cultural history of both the Institute and Freer House as national treasures

A House and It's HistoryThis booklet presents a vibrant and unique history of the Freer House, home of businessman and art collector Charles Lang Freer, who founded America's first national art museum, the Freer Gallery, Smitsonian Institution. It also details the life of the house as headquarters to the Merrill Palmer Institute Skillman Institute for Child & Family Development.
