Mary Cascarelli
Biography
Mary earned her undergraduate degree in Comparative Cultures & Politics, Muslim Studies, and Arabic from James Madison College at Michigan State University. Her research centered around Middle Eastern affairs and evolved to discuss the mental health of Syrian and Iraqi refugee children. Upon graduation, she decided to switch career paths from law to becoming a social worker, in hopes of working with refugee children. Mary believes there is a gap in research regarding refugees, especially refugee children. She hopes to bridge this gap in her work. She currently is employed at ACCESS in Dearborn, MI which is the largest Arab American nonprofit. She also interns at Matrix Human Services in their Head Start program. She aims to uplift the voices of refugee children and find ways to cater to their cultural, religious, and social identities.
