Parenting From Prison

Parenting From Prison is sponsored by Chapter 1011 of the National Lifers of America, Inc. (NLA), at the Mound Correctional Facility. The program provides parental skills and resource assistance during incarceration in order for participants to become better fathers and men.
NLA has several humanitarian projects which it supports within the parameters allowed by the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC). One of the most successful is the Teddy Bear Project, which donates handmade stuffed animals for distribution to children in need of comfort. The teddy bears are well made, cuddly and appealing.

On December 15, 2008, a Teddy Bear Party was held at the Mound Correctional Facility to donate over one hundred stuffed animals to Healthy Start and the Metropolitan Baptist District Association's designated recipient - Peggy's Place.

Donations of fabric, stuffing, eyes, noses, yarn, 6" plastic or luxite crochet hooks, thread, old and outdated sewing machines, even additional patterns are welcomed. To donate or find out more information, please contact Joan Blount, MPSI at joan.blount@wayne.edu or 313-872-7113.

Also, please check our press releases to see what else we are doing.
