Improving children’s development and well-being

The Children’s Bridge is a University program run by the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child and Family Development to promote interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty throughout Wayne State, and for connecting those faculty members with others beyond the university to address the many inter-related challenges facing today’s urban child. The goals of the Children’s Bridge for improving children’s development and well-being are to bridge disciplines, communities, nations, and generations.  We aim:

  • To connect researchers in many disciplines and fields from across the university and promote new multidisciplinary research;

  • To bridge with community outreach organizations in Detroit and southeastern Michigan whose aims are to promote child development and well-being;

  • To span international borders in helping establish research priorities on disparities in child health and development; and

  • To promote research that bridges the generations, focusing efforts on lifespan issues and on the impact of intergenerational relations and maturational transitions on life-long development and well-being.
